The comedians of the Royal Comedy Tour seem to be taking a break from their national tour and it sounds like they will be parting to pursue separate upcoming tours.
Although they have two dates for this coming year, (Macon, GA and Hartford, CT), they seem to be going out with a bang for a stand up comedy date in NYC, the night before the Superbowl.
As you probably already know the Superbowl is to be played February 2, 2014 at MetLife Stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The RCT social media has recently updated fans on their pre-bowl performance at the Beacon Theatre in NYC (with Sommore, Bruce Bruce, Arnez J, Gary Owen and Tony Rock). Tickets go on sale, tomorrow, Friday, November 15, 2013.
Check out this talented bunch of comedians if you are in town that weekend! Click here to check out tickets.
Wanda Sykes jokes in an interview saying “Wait, I thought we were getting The Tonight Show.” She was referring to her new deal with NBCUniveral to revive the reality tv show, Last Comic Standing. After a three-year hiatus, Last Comioc Standing will move forward with with an eighth season of the unscripted comedic competition series. The tentative plan is to being airing with the series this coming summer of 2014. The revival of the show comes as NBC has been struggling to keep afloat with original summer programming.
Wanda Sykes has boarded the series as an executive producer- this will be her first time doing so for the show. Sykes will executive produce the series with Page Hurwitz via the duo’s Push It Productions banner. The new deal continues Hurwitz’s relationship with the series, as executive producer between 2006-2010. As far as new hosts go- there is no news yet. Previous host included Jay Mohr, Anthony Clark, Bill Bellamy, Fearne Cotton and Craig Robinson.
According to THR: Last Comic Standing will return to its summer platform, where all but one of its seasons aired.
Check out a Lavell Crawford performace from the show in 2007. He took second place behind the last comic standing, Jon Reep.

Comedy Network has announced a new stand-up comedy special coming to the network. Attention to all Bill Cosby fans. Cosby will return to TV as his special will be entitled “Far From Finished. The special will air on Comedy Central on November 24. ”Far From Finished” will mark Cosby’s first television “concert” special in 30 years, and will be comprised of footage taken from the TV icon’s recent performance at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center, (directed by Robert Townsend).
The Huffington Post recounts that Cosby’s last special was in 1983, “Bill Cosby, Himself”, which was directed by the comedian himself.
Cosby, replies to media with the question of why return to the small screen at the age of 76, his simple reply was, ”Because … funny is funny”.
“In addition to his enduring legacy on ‘The Cosby Show,’ the star is best known for breaking down racial barriers by becoming the first African American to costar on a weekly, dramatic television series (winning three consecutive Emmys in the process) on ‘I Spy,’ and for creating and producing the Emmy Award-winning cartoon series ‘Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids’.”

It’s been about two months since the Dave Chappelle vs. Hartford incident that made national news. The “rowdy” “rude” “loud” Connecticut crowd who had been waiting all day for the “The Oddball Funny or Die” tour to present the return of Dave Chappelle, turned disastrous when Chappelle’s patience ran out, gave the crowd the finger, and told his audience that they “sucked”. The comedy crowd of Connecticut made a name for themselves that night…
Over the weekend we caught up with the Katt Williams’ Fall tour, the “Katt is Back Tour”. We previously reported about the controversey and skepticisim of his current tour becasue of his bad rep in the media (with five arrests in five days) and a few bad decisions leading to bad press during his previous tour. Katt has already toured through Hawaii, Nashville, Baton Rouge, and (this past weekend) Cincinnati and Hartford. Through social media- it seems to be nothing but great reviews. There has not been a big name comedian in Hartford since this past August’s Chappelle return, so we were skeptical to see how Katt would handle the crowd and how they would treat him also.
From getting to see his live performances this weekend, we can honestly say that Katt is Back… he is confident, his material is fresh, creative, relevant and he touches on so many current topics. As Katt entered the stage in Connecticut on Saturday night, he had the entire arena roaring in excitement as he refereed to Hartford as the “comedy killer” (in reference to the Dave Chappelle incident). He engaged with the crowd even giving a woman his solo cup of vodka and cranberry. As soon as he got back on track to finish his joke (after handing over his drink) the crowd immediately hushed, waiting for him to jump back in to his animated comedy act. The energy was great and you could feel the excitement in the XL Center. The host in Hartford, Jay The Comedian, was so energetic and hysterical. Over all, it seemed like a successful weekend for Katt Williams, he was very interactive at both shows and it was evident that he physically gave it his all during each show. How ironic that Dave Chappelle was calling out for Katt Williams who two months later came through and revived the comedic spirit in Hartford. Katt killed it in the comedy killer capitol.
During his performance in Ohio (Friday night), he received a standing ovation as he wrapped up the last joke. The beginning of the show started out strong as well, with local comedian JuDee Brown, who obviously has a great reputation with the reaction of the audience.
…The over all consensus at the Center Stage office is that Katt is definitely paving his way back to the top of the comedy and fans on social media agree too:
Check out JuDee: Check out Jay The Comedian:
Seems like everyone is at the edge of their seats waiting to see what is in store for Katt Williams. He officially announced the “Katt Is Back” tour on his Facebook with dates given for the fall, and hopefully spring soon to come. If the comments on Facebook are any indication, not everyone has faith that Katt will perform his best, or even show up. However, reviews and interviews with the man himself prove that there is anything but uncertainty for this new tour.
His first date branded as the “Katt Is Back Tour” is Friday, October 4 in Nashville. An interview with the Tennessean shows Katt in an optimistic light. The comedian acknowledges last year’s drama saying, “If you come off of a losing season, it’s time for a winning season; And we’re just happy that our season is going so well. Thus far, we’re undefeated.”
Concert-goers seem to agree. He performed in Hawaii and received rave reviews. Comedy Hawaii‘s review stresses how Katt gave a strong performance of new, fresh material.
Later in the Tennessean interview, Katt makes a wise, non-comedic observation; “sometimes strength comes not in the victories, but in the loss,” he says. “And the fact that sometimes, what’s most important is that you learn from it.”
We hope that Katt is victorious in making people laugh across the country with his new tour. Click here for fall tour dates. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for him!

This past weekend the Center Stage crew got to see Katt Williams perform in Boston! After being gone from the stand-up stage for a few years, but staying in the celebrity gossip spotlight- his reputation has definitely taken a hit. Taking time out to get his mind right and focus on new material- we can say that he is back and better than ever. He is great, he has all new material and his fans are loving it. He received standing ovations for all shows this past weekend. Not only did he have the crowd hysterical, but he also made light of his bad rep and explained what really happened vs. what TMZ reported.
Katt supposedly has new tour dates in the works and is back on track. Stay tuned for more info, but in the mean time check out one of his classic stand-up clips:

As rumors are still floating about Mo’Nique’s new show on BET, she is fit, full of energy and back in the comedy spotlight. Earlier this month we got the chance to catch one of her shows. Lets just say she came out “cussin”! She came onto the stage cussing and explaining her love for swearing and the art of stringing swear words together for more dynamics. Her energy was high, and she was as spunky and charismatic as ever. She had the crowd captured as she weaved her way from hilarious to the most serious topics on her three marriages, relationships, and her storytelling. To sum it up it was definitely an entertaining show. Comedian Tone X opened the show for Monique hyping up the crowd with his one liner… “I’m a grown ass man”.
Check out Mo’Nique’s page and her upcoming events.

It was a sad day for our friend, TueRae and the rest of the comedians in Philly at the beginning of this month. The landmark comedy club, The Laff House, opened it’s doors for the last time on July 3rd. “Noel Millwood took over managing the club six months ago when her father’s ability to handle the day-to-day business waned due to the loss of his wife Mona Wilkerson. Mona died of ovarian cancer early last year. Many described her as the heart of the club”, reported NBC Philadelphia.
Local comedians including TuRae Gordon, Vernon Keith Ruffin and Lawrence Killebrew have since launched the Save The Laff House campaign, a fundraising effort to provide a new venue for urban comedians in Philadelphia. The goal is not necessarily to reopen at the club’s current location on South Street, but to raise enough money to temporarily lease a venue until a permanent space can be built or purchased. The comedians have set a minimal goal of $100,000 to help cover the lease of a possible venue as well as fund events and rebuilt the broken culture.
Big names in comedy, such as Kevin Hart and Michael Blackson have brought laughter from the stage of the Laff House.
